How does teh Watchtower society figure out how many of the 144,000 were already accounted for before the JW's?
Interesting Question.

Considering that all the Bible Students, who renamed their selves Jehovah's Witnesses, prior to like around 1930 were all considered anointed and there were 30,000+ and over the last seventy tears with an estimated tallying of another 30,000 in the Memorial Death celebration here are few left after adding in any from the first century.

Just too funny. How does teh Watchtower society figure out how many of the 144,000 were already accounted for before the JW's?
It is not the Society's responsibility to know how many were accounted for. If a J.W. partakes of the bread and wine and has a godly record of serving God, since his baptism. That person is counted as an anointed, but if he isn't truly one, that person will have to personally render and account to God for pretending to be one. Romans 8:16 and Romans 8:27.
A sister in my hall 10 years ago said she was one of the anointed. The elders gave her a really hard time because she was only 40 and they didn't believe her. That wasn't very fair was it. She was more christian than any of them.
They don't try to figure out how many have been accounted for in times past. They only keep track of how many are currently professing to be of the 144,000 class.
Once you convince people that you've got word direct from God, there's not much else their going to ask questions about...paranoia is religion's most useful tool...
They don't.

All they have ever done is count the number that partake each year at their Memorial.

The number has been around 8,000 for decades.

So, that leaves 136,000 from previous times .....give or take.
by those who take of the emblems at the lords evening meal done once a yr,
