the one there is missing information stickers and needs replaced want to have enough heat this winterHow can i figure out how large of a furnace should I have for a 1204 square foot house at one and a half story?
The answer is you need to consult a licensed heating contractor. Ask them to assess your needs, not just put in a replacement.

Their calculation should include the age of the house (which tells them what standards it was built to, and therefore how well insulated it is).

What kind of insulation you have and the climate of the region you live in.

The measure of a furnace is it's BTU.

If you live in a cold climate (ie. Northern States or Canada) look into a high-efficiency unit, as increasing energy costs are going to make the high-efficiency units pay for themselves much faster (in 2005 I calculated it would take 10 years to pay the difference in Southern Canada, I'm sure by now it's less than 5 years).

In both homes I've lived in I've put in a York (UPG) high efficiency furnace and I've been happy with both.
