How do u figure out the square footage of a house?

when someone says 700sq foot house, what does that mean? and how do i figure out how big my place is?

i am watching HGTV and i always wonder what they meanHow do u figure out the square footage of a house?
It can be a little complicated because it is normaly based on the outside dimensions of the house. If the house were a perfect rectangle that was 30 feet by 40 feet and was only one floor, it would be a 1200 sq ft house (30 X 40 = 1200).

You could measure each room and hallway in your house and multiply the length and width of each area. Add them all up and you will be close. There may be some areas that are missed.

If there is an attached garage or a basement, they are not usually included in the square footage of the house. That term is used for the living area in the house.

If you own the house, the size should be recorded on the deed and in the purchase documents. How do u figure out the square footage of a house?

the variables are what is heated room space, including each floor level, and heated garage, but if by new standards not contained or heatable like porch/patio or open garage car port, then not included,

It means the size of the living area. Take the length and multiply it by the width to get the sq ft of each room and hall, then add together all the measurements you have and you will be pretty close. Don't count the basement unless it has 8 ft ceilings and 2 egresses. ( 2 ways to get in or out of a room)

don't count the garage either. Just the living area.
