What's the difference between a spiral and a spin in figure skating? Difference between lutz and axel?

When doing a spiral, a skater does not spin/rotate about a centre. He or she simply glides on one foot either forwards or backwards while raising the non-skating leg towards the back. A spin is when a skater rotates about a centre.

The most obvious difference between a lutz and an axel is that a skater is skating backwards before take off while for an axel, he or she jumps into the air while traveling forwards.

It's kind of hard to explain and visualise like this. You can go to this website to take a look at the different jumps and spins: http://www.sk8stuff.com/m_basic.htm

It's very useful. What's the difference between a spiral and a spin in figure skating? Difference between lutz and axel?
a spiral is where you glide on one foot eather in a straight line or on a curve and a spin is where the skater is going around in a tight circle eather on one foot or two.

A axel is a jump that the skater takes off from one foot facing forward and lands one the same foot facing forwards and a lutz is were the skater turn the oppesite way in the air and starts backwards and lands backwards on one foot.
