I SAY:
- Perimeter is the distance around the figure
- Area is the size of the whole figure with the perimeter of the figure
WIKIPEDIA SAYS:
- The perimeter is the distance around a given two-dimensional object. The word perimeter is a Greek root meaning measure around, or literally ';around measure.';
- Area is a physical quantity expressing the size of a part of a surface. The term can also be used in a non-mathematical context to be mean ';vicinity';.Describe the difference between the perimeter and area of a figure?
The perimeter of an object is the distance around the outside of the object. The area is the space inside of the object.Describe the difference between the perimeter and area of a figure?
The perimeter of a figure is the distance around the figure. AKA 2length+2width. The area of a figure is how much space is inside of the figure, AKA lengthXwidth
Think of perimeter as the length of string needed to go around the boundary.
Area is the amount of paint needed to paint the inside of the figure.
Perimeter is measured in linear units such as inches, feet, cm, meters, or kilometers.
Area is measured in square inches, square meters, etc. 1 square meter is the area of a square with edge = 1 meter.
For this figure the area will be 1 square meter, and the perimeter will be 4 meters.
Think of a square soccer field.
Perimeter is the length around the outside of the field, so say.. the amount of string that could be carried around the outside of the field. Perimeter is a length. It could have units of say... ';meters' or centimetres';
Area describes how much is inside the field. To find the area of the field you would have to multiply the length of the field, by it's width. And area is in square units. So....... it could be 16 metres squared. 4 m * 4m = 16 m
Is that a little more clear??
:)
perimeter is distance around a figure. I like to think of perimeter as how much fence you would need to buy.
area is how much space is inside.
the perimeter is just the length of the outermost sides of the figure. so if a rectangle with sides equal 4ft and 2ft, the perimeter is (4x2=8 + 2x2=4) = 12. the area on the other hand is the amount of two-dimensional ';space'; it occupies, in this case base x height, or 4x2=8.
The perimeter is the measurement of the outer edges of the ';thing'; you're measuring. The area is all-around and inbetween.
Think of the perimeter as just the outline of the item and the area of the SPACE the item inhabits
Perimeter is the measurement of distance around an object while an area is the measurement of distance inside the object
